The COA Peer Mentor Program is designed to support new students as they attend and adjust to high school life in the U.S. It is led by passionate high school students who believe in the power of peer support to foster belonging, growth, and confidence. This program offers a unique opportunity to build new connections and smoothly transition into your new high school experience in the U.S.!

  1. New high school students or recent transfers adjusting to a new school environment

  2. Individuals looking to make friends and connect with like-minded peers

  3. Those seeking peer support, advice, and a safe space to share thoughts

  1. At least one year of attending a U.S. high school

  2. Is responsible, willing to listen, share, and ready to help others

  3. Confident in English and eager to build a welcoming community

FAQ

1. How long is this program?

This is a semester-long program that runs for a few months ensuring plenty of opportunities to socialize.

2. What is the time commitment for the program?

Mentors and mentees will meet once a week for 30-40 minutes.

3. Where will the meetings take place?

Meetings are held online for accessibility however if both mentors are mentees and are attending the same school, we encourage in-person meetings!

4. What will we talk about during the meetings?

There will be weekly themed topics that focuses on real-life situations about high school experiences. Mainly, the meetings will be fun, interactive and casual conversations!

5. Do mentors earn volunteer hours?

Yes! Mentors can earn community service hours and may quality for the President’s Volunteer Service Award.
